Calling Young Story Writers from Malaysia!

Malaysia Young Author Award 2021

As part of our aim to nurture the next generation of thinkers and writers, the Unique English Classroom is the proud organizer of the Malaysia Young Author Award (MYAA). The purpose of MYAA is to provide a platform for young talents to improve their creative writing skills and boost confidence each time they pick up a pen. This will be a best opportunity for them to write and create Ideas for their own story. We wish to promote excellence in writing and to identify the best talents in Malaysia.

Malaysia Young Author Award Online Workshop and Competition

Session 1: 24 (Sat) & 25 (Sun) July 2021, 2.00pm to 5.30pm. Recommended for participants below 13 years old

Session 2: 31 July (Sat) & 1 Aug (Sun) 2021, 2.00pm to 5.30pm (FULL)

Session 3: 7 (Sat) & 8 (Sun) Aug 2021,  2.00pm to 5.30pm Recommended for participants above 13 years old
Maximum Participants for each group: 80 pax

Workshop Mode: ONLINE using ZOOM

All participants will join the Malaysia Young Author Award Workshop coached by Ms Catherine Khoo, founder of the Unique English Classroom and creator of the Young Author Award from Singapore. Ms. Khoo is an author, editor, lecturer, and moviemaker with more than 30 years of experience in media. She was the Editor-in-Chief of Japan Close-Up Magazine and Asia 21 Magazine. She has published two bestselling books and is the founder of Singapore’s first boutique publisher of imprints for under-18s.

  1. WORKSHOP AGENDA - (1) What is the Theme of My Story? (2) Analysing Stories Written by winners of the Young Author Award. (3) Planning My Story. After the workshop, all candidates will need to submit their final 1,000-word (for students from aged 10 to 14) and 1,500-word (for students from aged 15 - 18) story within 7 days. Top 3 winners will be announced 2 weeks after the submission deadline.
  2. COMPETITION PRIZES - Stories will be judged by age, next birthday. Group 1 (Junior Group) for Students aged 14 and below. Group 2 (Senior Group) for aged 15 and above. Top winner from each group will get RM1,500.00, Runner-up will get RM1,000.00 and Second runner-up will get RM500.00. Top 3 winners from EACH group will enjoy personal exclusive coaching by Ms Catherine Khoo for 30 minutes (schedule to be arranged separately). The next 10 best stories from each group will receive the group coaching by Ms Catherine Khoo. The coaching session will guide them on how to write their 3,000 to 5,000-word story. Their stories will be submitted to the Asia Young Author Award in Singapore for the October 2021 competition. The deadline for the submission is 31 August 2021.
  3. PARTICIPATION FEE - RM250 per pax (for both workshop and competition). Payment to be made via Bank Transfer to Caya Academy Sdn Bhd under : Maybank with account Number: 512884095226. Please include participant name in the payment reference.
  4. DEADLINE - 25 JULY 2021 or when maximum number of participants per group is filled up.
  5. REFUND POLICY - Refund is permissible if you cannot attend the competition on the scheduled date due to health condition, and the replacement date is not available. You must produce a valid medical certificate to request the refund of the participation fee.
