As part of our aim to nurture the next generation of thinkers and writers, the Unique English Classroom is the proud organizer of the Malaysia Young Author Award (MYAA) since 2020. The purpose of MYAA is to provide a platform for young talents to improve their creative writing skills and boost confidence each time they pick up a pen. This will be a best opportunity for them to write and create Ideas for their own story. We wish to promote excellence in writing and to identify the best talents in Malaysia.

Workshop Mode
ONLINE (virtual) using ZOOM

All participants will join the Malaysia Young Author Award workshop sessions coached by Ms Catherine Khoo, founder of the Unique English Classroom and creator of the Young Author Award from Singapore. Ms. Khoo is an author, editor, lecturer, and moviemaker with more than 30 years of experience in media. She was the Editor-in-Chief of Japan Close-Up Magazine and Asia 21 Magazine. She has published two bestselling books and is the founder of Singapore’s first boutique publisher of imprints for under-18s.

  1. WORKSHOP AGENDA - (1) What is the Theme of My Story? (2) Analysing Stories Written by winners of the Young Author Award. (3) Planning My Story. After the workshop, all candidates will need to submit their final MYAA 1,000-word (min) to 1,200-word (max) story for students from aged 12 and below, and 1,200-word (min) to 1,500-word (max) story for students from aged 13 and above story within 7 days. Top 3 winners will be announced 2 weeks after the submission deadline.
  2. COMPETITION PRIZES - Stories will be judged by Birth Year. Junior Group for Students born 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and younger. Senior Group for Student born 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006 and older. Top winner from each group will get RM1,200.00, Runner-up will get RM800.00 and Second runner-up will get RM500.00. Top 3 winners from EACH group will enjoy personal exclusive coaching by Ms Catherine Khoo for 30 minutes (schedule to be arranged separately). The next 10 best stories from each group will each receives RM50 and the group coaching by Ms Catherine Khoo. The coaching session will guide them on how to write their 3,000 to 5,000-word story for their coming Asia Young Author Award participation. All MYAA participants will also be invited to join the Asia Young Author Award (AYAA) in Singapore for the October 2022 competition. The deadline for the AYAA submission is 31 August 2022.
  3. PARTICIPATION FEE - RM250 per pax (for both workshop and competition). Payment to be made via Bank Transfer to Caya Academy Sdn Bhd under : Maybank with account Number: 512884095226. Please include participant name in the payment reference.
  5. DEADLINE - 17 JULY 2022 or when maximum number of participants per group is filled up. Please register as soon as possible. Seats are limited to maximum of 80 per group.
  6. REFUND POLICY - There is no refund of the fee. You can transfer your registered seat to anyone to replace you as long as we have the availability.
